MISSIONS AND OUTREACH The vision of this church with regard to missions has been formalized in the MFPC Charter and Mission Statement. There are many worthwhile organizations involved in numerous outreaches, both in this country and around the world, and the Charter is used to provide focus to the Mission Committee on the types of mission activities that this church should be part of. After the Charter was completed, the Mission Committee has worked to align the mission giving of the church with the vision the church has set for itself. The Mission Committee makes recommendations to the Session for the allocation of the mission budget to specific mission projects, and the Session makes final decisions. The portion of the church budget allocated to missions continues to be very generous in relation to churches of its size. To date, the Session has approved on going support to the following missions:
Beacon of Hope Campus Crusade for Christ Young Life TEAM World Gospel Mission OneByOne D.O.O.R. International Church World Service Blanket Fund Short Term Mission Trip to Russian Orphanage
In considering the many worthy missions recommended by members of the Congregation, the Missions Committee recognizes its mandate from Session that we develop ongoing relationships with the missionaries we support financially and to organize opportunities for congregational hands-on participation in mission projects. With this people orientation in mind, we tend to support missionaries who have a relationship with a member or members of the First Presbyterian Church and who are actively involved in field work. We do not normally support building campaigns, mission administrators or support personnel, or programs. We have been, and remain, committed to assuring that the name and face and hands of Jesus are at the forefront of all the decisions we make.
With this in mind, we welcome the opportunity to prayerfully consider any suggestions you might have.
